Our Inspiration:

Our idea to run writing competitions germinated over a quarter of a century ago but only much later, with the explosion of social media and the ease of contact, could it come to fruition.  Now we run frequent competition for a wide range of authors, flash fiction and short story writers, poets and novel writers.

Fiction Factory is UK based. We are a small but passionate group of writers, mentors and editors. Our readers are international, as are our writers – we have received entries from countries from Iceland to Japan, from Peru to Kazakhstan. We are also responsible and encouraging; we gladly waive entry fees for low income writers and we especially like to encourage writers from the developing world.

Competitions encourage writers of all styles and subjects and we welcome all genres (except, for the moment, children’s books and YA fiction). Our favourite stories will be gathered for an anthology which we plan for next year.

Most of our competitions also offer a critique on request, and as writers know, a sensitive and perceptive critique is the best way for writers to see where their writing might be improved, and where they got it right!

Writing competitions inspire authors, sharpening their self-editing,
perfecting their prose. Inexperienced writers take that big step,
sending their work out to the eyes of the world. Long listed writers
feel gratified they got so close while short listed and winners can

proudly list their achievements and their more impressive CVs will
open doors.
